Daido Moriyama exhibition "Tono story"

Moriyama Omichi was born in Osaka in 1938 and, for the elementary and junior high school era, wandered each place from place to place on account of the work of father and worked at the age of 20 years old in studio of Iwamiya Takeji of Osaka. And we go to Tokyo in 1961 and meet Mr. Mr. Eiko Hosoe, Shomei Tomatsu and we start as photographer of freelance in 1964 and charge to innovative expression. We play an active part mainly on photo magazines and are known for style with black-and-white strong contrast. Particle of screen was stormy, and vivid snap which it did not hesitate to conduct to become senile was appreciated abroad and attracted people.

This exhibition is reissued titled "Tono story" in first edition, 2007 in 1976 and sees travelogue photograph which Moriyama photographed than "Tono story" comprised of photograph and monologue in Tono through one week.
It is located at the middle of Hanamaki-shi and Kamaishi-shi of Iwate with Tono and is famous because Kunio Yanagida of folklorist edited folktale, legend to reach Tono town in last years of Meiji.

Because Moriyama repeated transfer on account of the work of father, we walked various towns since we were young, and "hometown" was born by connecting pieces of memory of scenery that we came across. And it was Tono that let reality and fantasy mingled in "Tono story" of Kunio Yanagida with oldness as symbol which you continued with as place where fiction did it and imagine the mysterious world. We hold camera from train toward Tono, and it is said that we pressed the shutter as having been possessed by anything until we leave Tono.

We project tracks continuing in dull graveyard, rural scenery that rice field, weeds opening in front of hilly section grow thick forever for homesickness.

Moriyama Omichi who caught "Tono story" is international as one of important writer in today's writer on the site, and attracts attention that memory and real Tono were complicated is work group which approached original view of oneself deeply.

It was born in Osaka for 1,938 years. Through photographer, Takeji Iwamiya, assistant of Eiko Hosoe, we become independent in 1964. After that we continue announcing work with photo magazines such as "camera every day" and "Asahi graph" "Asahi cameras" and win the association of the eleventh Japan photograph critic rookie of the year title by series such as "Japan Theater" in 1967. We participate in photograph coterie "purovoku" from 1968 through 1970. We hold private exhibition in New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and Paris Cartier foundation Museum of Contemporary Art, and global assessment is high, too.

"Good-bye photograph" "Japan Theater photo album" (Muromachi Publishing .1968) in masterpiece (photograph criticism company .1972); "hunter" (Chuokoron-Sha .1972), "light and shadow" (Fuyuki Corporation .1982), "Daido - Hysteric" (1993-1997), "Shinjuku" (Monday company .2002). In 2012, we attracted a great deal of attention in joint exhibition "William Klein+Daido Moriyama" (London Tate Modern).
