Ferry Che beato (Felice Beato) is born in Venice, Italy in 1832 and is brought up in Constantinople (existing Istanbul) from 1844, and it is said that we learned photograph technology from photographer, James Robertson of brothers-in-law.

We photograph old battlefields such as Crimean War, the first India independence war, the second Opium War and visit Japan in (1863) in 1863. We stayed in Japan to (1884) for approximately 20 years in 1884 and photographed manners and customs of scenery and people of various parts of Japan.

Large size photograph of clear image by his reliable technique is valuable document conveying Japanese state by the late Tokugawa period at the present without staying in Japan like him for long term, and almost breaking photographer leaving many photographs.

From beato work of possession, we display approximately 90 points including five pieces of panorama photographs which state of finished Yokohama Station, stroll area and Tokaido around Yokohama where it was permitted that foreigner goes, beautiful scenery of various parts of Japan of Kanbe or Nagasaki that are opening of a port place and manners and customs of Japanese at the time and beato were good at mainly on album sold as souvenir for foreigners who visited Japan as the first part in (1872) in cityscape and 1872 of Edo this time.


Ferry Che beato (Felice Beato)

We are said to have been born in Italy Venice in 1832 (there are various opinions). We are brought up in Constantinople (existing Istanbul) from 1844. We visit Japan in (1863) in 1863 and open photo studio in settlement of Yokohama. We photographed a lot of manners and customs of scenery and people of various parts of Japan. We sell photo studio to steal Freed & Anderson in (1877) in 1877. We leave Japan in (1884) in 1884 and stay in Africa and Burma. On January 29, 1909, we die in Florence.
