Event contents

The Tokyo Olympics are memorized as important event of the Japanese postwar history. It was festival of sports not to speak of the Olympics, but the Tokyo Olympics held in 1964 (Showa 39) were national events that we hung Japanese prestige to show that Japan which received big blow in World War II accomplished miraculous economic revitalization from the end after approximately 20 years to international community and were big design project that Japanese designer raised all power after the war, and wrestled.

When Olympics holding in Tokyo was decided, "design round-table conference" was organized in 1960, and at first design policy was decided. And Munemichi Yanagi was in charge of Takashi Kono, blowtorch of the sacred-fire relay by Hiromu Hara, Noriaki badge by Yusaku Kamekura, admission ticket and testimonial with the cause, emblem and poster of conduct of design commentator Masaru Katsumi, and young person designers including Ikko Tanaka at the time wrestled for production such as pictogram, program or venue guide map for facility guidance systematically. As for a series of design work, model Tomonari, the nation of the later international event would feel power of design through the Olympics close.
In now when mood for Olympics bidding of 2020 increases, we look back toward the Tokyo Olympics of 1964 some other time and chase big picture of a series of design work.
